Here are eight foods that can protect you from the risk of colon cancer, as reported by besthealth, Friday (28/09/2012), among others:

 

1. Peas and other foods that are high folate

If you have a family history of colon cancer, perbanyaklah foods containing folate, which is a type of vitamin B that can protect cells from DNA damage.

 

According to a Harvard University study, nearly 89,000 women who had a risk of colon cancer may lower risikohingga more than 52 percent after eating foods that contain folic although only 200 micrograms per day.

 

You can get about 100 to 150 micrograms of folic simply by eating a cup of beans or spinach. One medium-size citrus fruit can also offer up to 50 micrograms of folate.

 

You can also take a multivitamin every day, drink orange juice, or eating dark green vegetables and legumes, such as kidney beans, black beans, and peas.

 

2. Milk

Milk is not only to provide benefits for strong bones, but it can also protect you from colon cancer. Based on data of more than half a million people showed that those who drank at least one glass of milk a day, can reduce the risk of colon cancer by 15 percent.

 

Choose low-fat milk in order to get the health benefits of milk without worrying about weight gain.

 

3. Vegetable

Vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, and turnips are a powerful vegetables prevent cancer because they contain various compounds that DAPT tame the cancer-causing substances before they may cause damage to cell DNA.

 

4. Foods that are high in fiber

Natural yellow pigment in turmeric called curcumin, is regarded as anti-cancer drugs which proved successful. Curcumin is anti-inflammatory that can relieve the inflammation that contributes to tumor growth.

 

Turmeric also helps remove carcinogens in the body before damaging the DNA of cells and help repair the damage that has been done. Lab studies show this spice also helps stop the growth and spread of cancer cells.

 

Add turmeric as a spice in cooking to get the health benefits of colon cancer prevention.

 

6. Fish and chicken

According to research by EPIC, eating 300 grams or 10 ounces of fish per week can reduce the risk of colon cancer by 30 percent compared to those who ate fish less than once a week.

 

Fish is a healthy food choice than meat. If you choose fatty fish such as salmon or mackerel, you can also get omega-3 fatty acids are more to reduce inflammation in the gut.

 

If you do not like to eat fish, chicken can be an alternative with the same benefits. Studies show that the chicken is not actively promoting colon cancer, does not like red meat.

 

7. Onion and garlic

Onion and Garlic contains sulfides that help clean the carcinogens and prevent the growth of cancer cells due to its antioxidant properties.

 

According to one study, women who ate 1-2 cloves of garlic per week had a 32 percent lower risk of colon cancer compared to women who rarely ate garlic. Add onion and garlic to your cooking to get the benefit of the health of the intestine.

 

8. Black tea and green tea

Lab studies show that compounds in tea helps deactivate cancer-causing agents. These compounds can also inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

 

People who drink two or more cups of tea per day had a reduced risk of colon cancer by 30 percent than those who rarely drank tea. Green tea and black tea contains antioxidant compounds, called catechins that can fight free radicals cause colon cancer.
